Jeffrey M. Freedman, the founding attorney of Jeffrey Freedman Attorneys at Law, received his bachelor’s degree from American University in Washington, D. C., and earned his law degree at Western New England College School of Law in Springfield, Mass.

 He has practiced law in Western New York since 1977 and served as a Chapter 7 trustee with the U.S. Bankruptcy Court, Western District of New York, for seven years.

 In 1980, Mr. Freedman opened his own law firm. His staff of 11 attorneys and over 40 assistants has helped more than 20,000 families with debt problems, and has obtained disability benefits for over 8,000 Social Security Disability and SSI claimants.  In addition, he oversees a highly successful personal injury department.  Currently, Jeffrey Freedman Attorneys At Law has 13 offices located throughout upstate New York.

 Mr. Freedman is a member of the Bar Association of Erie County, the Monroe County Bar Association and the MCBA Bankruptcy Committee, the New York State Bar Association, the American Bar Association, the Bar Association of Erie County Commercial Law Committee and a former member of the Bar Association of Erie County Ethics Committee and the NYSBA Committee on Attorney Advertising.

 He is current Chair of the Bar Association of Erie County Committee for the Disabled. He also serves on the Board of Directors of the Erie County Bar Foundation, the Lupus Foundation and Jewish Family Service.

 In addition, he is a founding member and former vice-president of the National Association of Consumer Bankruptcy Attorneys, a member of the National Organization of Social Security Claimants’ Representatives, the New York State Trial Lawyers’ Association, and an associate member of the National Association of Chapter Thirteen Trustees.

 He has also been a recipient of both New York State and Bar Association of Erie County Pro Bono Awards.

 Mr. Freedman has testified before Congress on several legal issues. As a consumer advocate, he has actively participated in lobbying activities concerning legislative matters.

 Mr. Freedman has written articles on legal topics for several publications including The Buffalo News, Business First of Buffalo, The Rochester Democrat & Chronicle, Bar Association of Erie County Bulletin, New York State Bar Association Journal, and The American Bankruptcy Institute Journal.  He has also lectured for many national, state and local groups, and has been interviewed on numerous radio and television talk shows, including CBS Evening News with Dan Rather. He authored the books, Personal Bankruptcy:  A guide to controlling runaway debt and Social Security Disability: How to obtain the benefits you deserve.
